Stabilizer of the mucous gel overlying the gastrointestinal mucosa that provides a physical barrier against various noxious agents. May inhibit the growth of calcium oxalate crystals in urine. (www.uniprot.org) Produced in E.coli as a homodimer, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 2 x 60 amino acids which includes a 40 amino acid trefoil motif containing 3 conserved interamolecular disulfide bonds.
