5B-Tetrahydrocortisol is an endogenous metabolite of hydrocortisone (cortisol; Item No. 20739).{57583,54782} It is also an intermediate in the biosynthesis of B-cortol (Item No. 33412).{54782} It is formed from cortisol by steroid 5B-reductase and is dehydrogenated by 20B-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (20B-HSD) to produce B-cortol in the liver.{61459,57583,54782} Urinary levels of 5B-tetrahydrocortisol have been used as a marker for cortisol production and are associated with metabolic syndrome in obese individuals.{54783}
