(R)-Equol is an agonist of estrogen receptor a (ERa) and active metabolite of the polyketide isoflavone daidzein (Item No. 10005166).{16628,16720} It is formed from daidzein by gut microbiota.{16628} (R)-Equol selectively induces ERa-mediated gene transcription over ERB-mediated transcription in HEC-1 cells expressing the human receptors in a reporter assay (EC50s = 66 and 330 nM, respectively).{16720}
